Spanish GP, Sauber with new developments
Kick Sauber approaches the Spanish GP with anticipation and confidence thanks to the new upgrade package that will be fitted to the C45. The developments, the Hinwil team’s hopes suggest, are aimed at helping the squad move away from the bottom of the Constructors’ standings and increase the car’s competitiveness.
The Montmeló circuit is perfect for evaluating the impact of updates: it is a well-rounded track, featuring three free practice sessions, though not all teams will be introducing upgrades given the debut of the new front wing regulations, which enforce significantly less flexibility compared to previous designs. Kick Sauber, however, believes it cannot afford to wait and has opted to get ahead of the work in preparation for the summer races.
Nico Hülkenberg’s words
“Barcelona is a track we know well, it’s probably the circuit where I’ve done the most laps in a Formula 1 car,” said Nico Hülkenberg. “That helps us prepare for the weekend ahead. We’ll have a new package, and the key will be to understand how it behaves in the early sessions and to make the most of it. We’ve recently shown some improvement in race pace. If we can put together a good qualifying, we’ll have a better chance to improve in the race. The recent races in Barcelona have shown that the revised layout promotes more exciting racing.”
Gabriel Bortoleto’s words
“I can’t wait to race in Barcelona: it’s a track I’ve already raced on several times in the lower categories, so I know what to expect. Monaco was quite a tough race, but we’ve learned from the weekend and now we face the last round of a very intense triple-header. Some upgrades are planned for this round, so the goal will be to quickly get familiar with the components, continuing to work on the car and its setup in order to improve our position in qualifying and the race,” added Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the race which is held at the 4.657-kilometre Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Sunday.
