F1 | Hadjar clashes with Alonso: “He’s grumpy!”
The 2025 Singapore Grand Prix was not only about strategy, tension, and battles at the front. In the midfield and backmarkers’ pack, one of the weekend’s hottest moments occurred: a heated exchange between Fernando Alonso and rookie Isack Hadjar, which culminated in a team radio message that quickly circulated throughout the paddock. The Aston Martin driver, visibly frustrated with the young Racing Bulls driver, sarcastically remarked:
“A trophy for the hero of the day!”
Isack Hadjar responds: “I was fair. If he’s grumpy, it’s not my problem”
The French rookie responded promptly, showing maturity but also a hint of annoyance at the two-time world champion’s words. After the race, Isack Hadjar stated:
“I didn’t push him off the track and kept my behavior fair during the battle. If he didn’t enjoy that fight and is grumpy, that’s not something I can control.”
Alonso explains his frustration
Alonso later clarified the reason behind his irritation. The veteran Aston Martin driver felt that Isack Hadjar, despite having an engine not performing at 100%, had overextended himself in the fight:
“Some maneuvers at 300 km/h in Singapore are a bit on the edge, but everyone races as they see fit, and there was no contact, so it was fine. Racing Bulls has a very fast car but not many points, so it’s more of their problem. I think he had a small engine issue; in some battles, you need to know when it’s worth fighting and when it isn’t, because the result could have been worse for both of us, especially for him. It was an unnecessary risk, and we lost some time.”
The exchange highlighted the tension that can emerge even outside the main championship battle and underscored the learning curve for rookie drivers like Isack Hadjar when racing against seasoned veterans such as Alonso.
