Red Bull is entering the final stages of preparation for the 2026 Formula 1 season as the Barcelona pre-season tests approach. In the last few hours, both Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar have completed their seat fittings in the new RB22, ahead of the official shakedown scheduled for next week at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The Milton Keynes team shared the first images on their social media channels showing both drivers sitting in the new car, marking their first real contact with the RB22, which will debut under the new regulatory cycle. For Red Bull, this represents a crucial technical milestone, helping to finalize the driving position, cockpit ergonomics, and all reference points necessary for the first laps on track.
With the seat fittings now complete, Red Bull is ready for the first true test of the season. The Barcelona session, spanning five days in total, will be the official on-track debut of the RB22. However, each team is limited to just three days of activity, making the preparation carried out at the factory before departing for Spain even more critical.
Has Red Bull chosen to skip pre-test shakedowns?
Unlike several other teams, Red Bull has opted not to conduct a preliminary shakedown before Barcelona. This strategic decision concentrates all initial on-track work during the collective testing session, avoiding early mileage on other circuits.
A similar approach has been adopted by McLaren. The Woking-based team does not plan to run on the first available day in Spain, instead beginning on the second or third day to maximize the efficiency of the limited track time.
For Verstappen and Red Bull, the Barcelona test will provide the first real technical feedback on a car designed to fully comply with the updated regulations. After months of simulator and wind tunnel work, the data gathered on track in Barcelona will be vital in guiding the first development decisions ahead of the 2026 championship start.
