Andrea Kimi Antonelli will start sixth in Mexico City: here are his words following qualifying. In the qualifying session for the Mexican Grand Prix, Andrea Kimi Antonelli secured a spot on the third row behind Max Verstappen and his teammate, George Russell. The Italian driver expressed overall satisfaction with the result, considering the gaps and the progress he made throughout the session.
Antonelli’s Q3 performance
On his second attempt in Q3, Kimi Antonelli set a time of 1:16.118, which will allow him to start from the third row in the race. After qualifying, the Mercedes junior driver said: “I had a difficult Q1 and struggled to find my rhythm. This put me in a slightly disadvantageous position for the rest of qualifying, as I needed to improve my final laps in both Q1 and Q2.”
“However, I managed to improve as the qualifying session progressed, and Q3 was my cleanest session. P6, just a couple of tenths off the front row, wasn’t a bad result in the end,” Antonelli added.
Looking ahead to the race
Turning his focus to the race, he said: “Tomorrow should be a big battle. There are many unknowns ahead of the race, and all three tire compounds seem capable of being useful. The start will be very important, considering the long straight leading into Turn 1.”
“If we can get a good start, we could put ourselves in a positive position to fight with those ahead. This will be crucial, especially since both Ferraris will start in front of us.”
