It was a turbulent morning for McLaren during FP3 at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku. According to Sky Sport F1 Italia and confirmed by Vicky Piria, the team decided to replace the rear suspension on both Lando Norris’ and Oscar Piastri’s cars—a move that signals the urgent need to find a better balance on the tight Baku street circuit.
As if that weren’t enough, Norris himself raised concerns over the radio at the start of the session, complaining about instability in the front wing—a factor that could undermine his confidence ahead of this afternoon’s qualifying session.
Will Joseph: “Lando, thoughts on the front wing?”
Lando Norris: “Well, right now it’s unstable everywhere. Turn after turn it just keeps getting worse.”
The decision to modify the suspensions just hours before the crucial session is a clear sign of McLaren’s struggles, forced to react in order to defend their performance on track. Despite having a competitive package, the team appears to be chasing setup improvements while Ferrari and Red Bull closely monitor every detail.
The big question now is: will McLaren be able to turn these adjustments into an advantage, or could they make the weekend even more challenging in what is already shaping up to be an intense Azerbaijan GP?
