Oscar Piastri assessed Friday at the Singapore Grand Prix positively, despite two red flags that disrupted the rhythm during the second practice session. “It wasn’t a session very representative of the race, but the car is in good shape. We ran quite a bit and, overall, it was a positive day,” explained the Australian, who topped the times in the second session.
The McLaren driver’s focus is already on Saturday, a crucial day on a street circuit where overtaking is challenging and every mistake can be costly. “Qualifying here is fundamental, perhaps more than elsewhere. It’s better to start at the front and manage a few uncertainties in the race rather than qualifying behind, because Sunday won’t help you,” he added.
With good confidence in the car and growing trust in the team, Oscar Piastri aims to make the most of qualifying to build a competitive weekend and try to gain ground in the standings against his teammate, his direct rival in the championship fight.
