McLaren and Lego unveil special helmets for Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri
McLaren and Lego have joined forces to celebrate the Woking-based team’s 1,000th Grand Prix at the Monaco Grand Prix, unveiling two new helmet designs dedicated to Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. The two drivers will also wear specially designed versions of their real helmets during the race weekend in the Principality.
For the first time, both Lego sets include the drivers as Lego minifigures and have been available in all dedicated stores since June 3. The sets were created through a special collaboration involving the drivers themselves and the Lego design team.
The helmets feature remarkable details and the distinctive liveries associated with each driver, combined with the unique design elements of McLaren’s special 1,000th Grand Prix celebratory livery. The project was developed to mark one of the most significant milestones in the team’s Formula 1 history.
Both real-life helmets are based on the brand-new Lego Editions sets that fans can now take home, creating a unique tribute to McLaren’s racing heritage and legacy in motorsport.
Oscar Piastri’s helmet features McLaren’s signature papaya color alongside blue, the Australian driver’s favorite color. It includes details such as his racing number and graphic elements inspired by the team’s special anniversary livery. The 793-piece set includes an Oscar Piastri minifigure dressed in a specially selected racing suit. Built on a black display base featuring a nameplate and printed signature, the set is designed to be a standout addition to any Formula 1 collection.
Lando Norris’ version, meanwhile, showcases his iconic fluorescent splash design together with elements from the special 1,000th Grand Prix livery. Created in collaboration with Lando Norris himself, the set features organic shapes and includes his new driver number, the coveted number “1”, recreated in Lego brick form. The included minifigure incorporates exclusive design details inspired by the British driver and can be displayed on a black stand decorated with a nameplate and printed signature.
Louise McEwen, Chief Marketing Officer of McLaren Racing, said: “Our partnership with Lego is built on a shared commitment to creativity, innovation and inspiring the next generation of fans, and this launch embodies that perfectly. Seeing our drivers’ helmets reimagined through Lego creativity and then brought to life on the streets of Monaco is a powerful expression of what we can achieve together.”
“It’s playful, it’s authentic, and it connects our history with a new audience in a way that feels both meaningful and relevant. Over the years, we have built something truly special with Lego, and this is another milestone that reflects the strength of our partnership and the ambition we share for the future.”
Julia Goldin, Chief Product & Marketing Officer of Lego, added: “With a partnership that has lasted for more than a decade, we are thrilled to bring the power of Lego creativity to McLaren Racing’s historic 1,000th race celebration. It has been a true co-creation process, with our Lego design team working closely alongside the drivers and McLaren Racing to develop these special Lego helmets for the team’s 1,000th race.”
“Now fans will be able to build the sets at home, creating a fantastic keepsake from a historic moment in racing to proudly display. We cannot wait to see the real helmets being worn by Lando and Oscar this weekend.”
Daniel Meehan, Creative Director at Lego, said: “We worked closely with Lando and Oscar to create their helmets, which fans will now be able to build and display at home. They came up with fantastic ideas that we cannot wait for fans to discover while building the sets.”
“Creating such organic shapes at this scale always gives us exciting opportunities to explore new building techniques and creative uses of Lego elements. We hope fans enjoy building them, perhaps while cheering on the drivers during the race weekend.”
