The McLaren driver, racing with car number 4, took pole position both in Friday’s and Saturday’s qualifying sessions, and as if that weren’t enough, he also claimed victory in the Sprint Race. The main event of the weekend is still to come, but Lando Norris now has a golden opportunity to further extend his lead over teammate Oscar Piastri.
The turning point in Norris’ performance
According to Sky Sport F1 analyst Matteo Bobbi, there is a specific reason behind Lando Norris’ recent form, particularly noticeable between Mexico and Brazil. He explained: “Ever since he ‘lost the championship in the Netherlands,’ we’ve seen a different Lando.” The comment refers to the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, where Lando Norris suffered a reliability-related retirement, at a time when many believed Oscar Piastri was set to take control of the championship battle.
Bobbi continued, saying, “From Mexico onwards, nothing seems to affect him anymore, whether positive or negative. Clearly, that works for him. It’s as if he’s found the password to his emotions, and now he knows exactly how to use and process them to his advantage. During qualifying, he was extremely precise — and let’s not forget, Kimi was close to taking pole.”
Another area where Lando Norris has made significant progress is in managing the most delicate moments of a race. During starts and Safety Car restarts, the McLaren driver now appears much more composed and calculated. This improved mental clarity has allowed him to maintain first position even in the most vulnerable moments, when his rivals were closest and most aggressive.
With this new mental approach, Lando Norris seems to have reached a new level of maturity — one that could prove decisive in the fight for the Formula 1 World Championship. His calm mindset, combined with McLaren’s competitive car, may be the ultimate secret behind his flawless performance in Brazil and beyond.
