It was time to return to school for Andrea Kimi Antonelli before hitting the track at Imola with Mercedes for his first home Grand Prix. The Italian driver took advantage of the proximity of the next race to return to school after Miami and showed up with his road car, a Mercedes AMG GT 63.
In short, it was a week off for Kimi Antonelli, who also has to face his high school final exams in June before he can fully dedicate himself to Formula 1. It’s still unclear how the young driver will juggle track duties with the exam dates, but the Bologna native has repeatedly stated that he is committed to studying in order to pass his exams.

So, before throwing himself into his home race weekend, Kimi Antonelli took the opportunity to go to school. Images of the young driver arriving in the school courtyard in his Mercedes have gone viral, much to the surprise of his classmates and the other students at the school.
But how is Kimi Antonelli able to drive such a high-powered car considering he’s a newly licensed driver? According to Italian law, those who have held a driving license for less than a year are not permitted to drive high-displacement vehicles. Kimi Antonelli, in fact, has had his license for only two months.
However, the Bologna native found the perfect loophole. He took his driving test in San Marino, outside of Italian territory, which gives him the right to drive his vehicle. Thanks to his San Marino license, Kimi Antonelli can show off his Mercedes AMG GT 63 in his school courtyard, to the amazement and pride of his classmates who are thrilled to have him so close.
