Kimi Antonelli is preparing for the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix with the intention of putting behind him the uncertainties of recent races. The Montréal circuit represents an ideal testing ground to evaluate progress made with the C6 compound, which has caused him significant trouble between Imola and Monaco.
“I struggled to find consistency with the performance of the C6,” explained Kimi Antonelli in interviews on the eve of the Canadian weekend.
“The C6 is a very demanding tyre, difficult to get into the right operating window already from the out lap. At Imola, for example, I was competitive in FP3, but in qualifying I lost five to six tenths without being able to understand why. That took away my confidence.”
In Barcelona, there was a clear step forward, though still not enough:
“In Spain it felt good to get back into rhythm, but at the beginning of the sessions I took too long to find the pace, also because qualifying in the two previous weekends had been complicated. That was the main issue.”
The young Italian used the break week to work at the factory on the simulator, thoroughly analyzing the behavior of the C6: “I tried to understand what worked and what didn’t. Montréal is a different track—very low speed, smooth asphalt, and cool temperatures. I’ve worked to arrive better prepared and know how to handle things more effectively.”
On Mercedes’ chances in the race: “We definitely need a clean weekend. Our package works well in the cold.”
“Last year Mercedes was very strong here. But this season is a bit different: sometimes we perform well where we used to struggle and vice versa. If we find the right balance right away, we can build a good weekend. The team is doing an outstanding job—now it’s up to me.” – the Italian driver concluded ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend.
