Lewis Hamilton Moves to Ferrari F1
Lewis Hamilton has left Mercedes F1 and is preparing for his historic debut at the wheel of a Ferrari Grand Prix car. This sensational switch has sparked extensive discussion, bringing with it certainties—such as the ability of a driver of his caliber to instill a winning mentality in the Scuderia, which it may currently lack—and inevitable doubts about recent performances (particularly in qualifying) and the internal dynamics with Charles Leclerc. However, according to engineer Andrew Shovlin, there is an aspect of Sir Lewis’s character that will be missed in the Mercedes garage after his departure.
F1: Shovlin Reveals Lewis Hamilton’s “Phobia”
In an interview with *The New York Times*, Andrew Shovlin described how Lewis Hamilton suffers from a sort of “phobia” of losing, which inevitably drives everyone around him to give their absolute best to put him in the best possible conditions. “There are no other drivers like him, so you can definitely say that, in this respect, Hamilton is unique. Working with him is fun; he’s a driver who is as committed to success as all of us are. And in a team, that’s what is required from everyone involved.”
“But Lewis has his own distinctive trait,” Shovlin added, “almost a phobia of losing that directs his work ethic. And this is a good thing because when you have a driver who brings this kind of energy to the team, you push tirelessly and always aim to improve. It’s an aspect that brings a lot of motivation within the garage. Hamilton is the only driver I’ve worked with where this characteristic manifests so clearly… Of course, no good driver likes to lose; in fact, all of them hate being beaten. That’s entirely normal, but the effort and concern this triggers in Lewis, in my view, sets him apart from most of his colleagues.”
