After completing his debut season in Formula 1, Kimi Antonelli has reached a major milestone off the track: the young Italian has decided to move out and live on his own.
Kimi Antonelli is only 19 years old. On the race track, he drives with the poise of a seasoned veteran. Off it, he is just now discovering what it truly means to become an adult. His next big step doesn’t involve a steering wheel or a daring overtake, but rather the mundane realities of daily life: moving into his own home. In a candid interview, Antonelli also opened up about a personal crisis he faced mid-season that caused him significant distress.
Antonelli: “I’m a disaster when it comes to chores”
Speaking with Fanpage, Antonelli was remarkably honest about his struggles with everyday household tasks as he prepares for independence:
“I’m a disaster at housework. I have to learn because I’ll soon be moving out to live permanently on my own, but I don’t know how to use the washing machine, how to clean, or how to cook… I hope my mom will still come to help me because I’m not practical at all as a ‘househusband.’ People say I’m very mature for my age, but when it comes to these things, I have everything to learn.”
Facing an emotional crisis during his rookie year
While he may feel behind in the kitchen, Kimi had to build professional maturity at a lightning pace in Formula 1—especially during his low points. Following his arrival at Mercedes, he faced an emotional crisis that tested his resolve. His words to Fanpage paint a clear picture of the pressure involved:
“I cry. During that difficult period, I cried quite a lot. I struggled a lot, especially mentally, because I started to doubt myself. You arrive in Formula 1—it’s the dream of your life, the thing you’ve worked so hard for—and after a great start to the season, you begin to not perform the way you’d like. It was tough. I also lacked the composure and lucidity that more mature drivers have when managing a difficult moment.”
Despite the struggle, his recovery was swift and significant. Throughout the ordeal, Kimi Antonelli never lost his strong connection with the Silver Arrows.
“For me, Mercedes is everything. They believed in me and helped me grow. I want to win with them. Toto Wolff has known me since I was a child. We have a special bond. He knew how to push me and how to be tough when it was necessary. He’s the best at what he does. This year I learned so much. It’s only the beginning. The team is pushing hard. It will be up to me to do the rest. To win races. And maybe, who knows, fight for the World Championship.”
As he navigates the challenges of laundry and living alone, Kimi Antonelli remains focused on the ultimate goal. The support system at Brackley, combined with his own newfound mental resilience, suggests that the young Italian is ready to turn his rookie lessons into future victories.
