Max has a special connection with the Interlagos circuit, where he has won three times in his career: once under the traditional “Brazilian GP” name, and twice as the São Paulo GP. Back in 2016, in torrential rain, he demonstrated his class with breathtaking maneuvers and champion-level performances against two Mercedes that were untouchable in dry conditions but proved no match for the young Max Verstappen in the wet.
“Brazil is a special place for me, not just because of the extraordinary races and great moments I’ve had there, but also because my in-laws are Brazilian,” Max said. “The weather can change rapidly, and races often become unpredictable, like last year when we won starting from seventeenth place: an emotional victory and a key moment in the championship.”
Verstappen on the attack at his “home” Interlagos
“For this weekend I’ll be using a special helmet dedicated to Brazil. I chose traditional, very vibrant colors that stand out well: I really like the design and I can’t wait to bring it to the track. Racing here is always a unique experience: the fans are incredibly passionate, and the circuit maintains that ‘old-school’ spirit that makes every lap exciting. The atmosphere at Interlagos is something incredible, and being part of it is always a great privilege,” he added.
It will undoubtedly be an emotionally charged weekend, even for someone as reserved as Verstappen, who is fully focused on the main objective: gaining as many points as possible on the two McLaren drivers. With the Sprint Race in the middle of the weekend and a track that suits him perfectly, it’s easy to expect an aggressive weekend from the Dutchman, fully supported by Red Bull.
