The Milton Keynes team is not giving up on the development of the RB21: while in Miami a new floor for Max Verstappen was introduced ahead of schedule, aerodynamic updates have appeared at Imola near the radiator inlets. Modifications are also planned in the brake duct assemblies to try to control tyre temperatures.
Red Bull wants to try to close the technical gap with the untouchable McLaren: the Milton Keynes team managed to bring forward a new floor to Miami, ready only for Max Verstappen, but which was originally scheduled for Imola.
The floor has been approved and will therefore also be available to Yuki Tsunoda, but the RB21 will feature additional aerodynamic details that will complete the development package of a car still undergoing evolution. In the Enzo and Dino Ferrari garages, we observed updates concerning the sidepod inlets.
Two visible changes alter the airflow toward the rear and the floor’s edge: below the radiator mouth, a vertical flow diverter has appeared to guide the air, while higher up, the design of the visor covering the sidepod opening has been changed.
According to reports, there should also be updates inside the brake duct assemblies, in an attempt to follow McLaren’s concept that allows the papaya-coloured car to manage tyre temperatures more effectively by widening the operating window. However, since these are not visible components, they won’t appear tomorrow in the official list of updates…
