Flavio Briatore discusses Alpine’s potential driver line-up and goals for 2026
Flavio Briatore has shared his thoughts on who could join Pierre Gasly at Alpine in 2026 and the team’s overall objectives. After fueling speculation about a possible imminent split with Franco Colapinto, Briatore revealed what might be Alpine’s strategy in terms of drivers and ambitions for the upcoming season. The French team, as repeatedly stated by those directly involved, is strongly focused on the new regulations, aiming to return to the front after several challenging seasons.
Alpine’s plans for the 2026 Formula 1 season
Alpine will be able to count on Mercedes power units, which according to recent reports could become a benchmark for the entire grid. To complement this, the team will need a car capable of competing at the top level and a first-class driver pairing. What is certain is that one of the two seats will remain with Pierre Gasly, who recently signed a contract extension through 2028. Regarding his teammate, Flavio Briatore opened up the possibility of an option that previously seemed unlikely. He said: “Pierre’s renewal was fundamental because he is one of the best drivers on the grid and a cornerstone of our project. As for the other seat, we are considering the possibility of keeping Franco with us as well. Stability is important, and this could lead us to confirm this season’s line-up.”
“Then, of course, we need to design a top-level car. We will no longer be producing our own engine, so we will no longer have any excuses in that regard. In recent years, the power unit has held us back significantly, especially now that the cars are all very close. For 2026, we have everything we need, and if all goes well, we can aim for the top 4. Certainly, if I returned to Formula 1, it wasn’t to be just a spectator,” Flavio Briatore added.
