The new Formula 1 season has not officially begun yet, but the German manufacturer has already taken to the track for a filming day at the Barcelona circuit. Audi has uploaded the first official images of the laps completed by the R26 during today’s running. Alongside these photos, it is also possible to observe the first technical details, including the choices made for the front and rear suspension.
The on-track activity covered approximately 200 kilometres. The initial focus was clearly on confirming that all the components of the car were functioning correctly. A first look was also taken at the behaviour of the power unit. Given the temperatures typical of this time of year, it is difficult to imagine that the team gathered truly representative data by the end of the running.
The first official images of Audi
The German manufacturer shared several photos showing the work carried out on track during today’s session. Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto climbed into a 2026-spec car for the first time, completing a filming day at the Barcelona circuit, which will host pre-season testing at the end of January. Mattia Binotto was also present, observing his team at work from the pit lane.
By analysing the videos and images that show the Audi R26 in action on the Formula 1 circuit in Barcelona, it is possible to identify the first technical details. Based on the available images, the German team’s car appears to feature a push-rod configuration for both the front and rear suspension. This solution allows for weight savings and offers greater ease of operation when set-up changes are required.
Audi will officially present its livery on 8 February during a Super Bowl-related event. To see more detailed elements of the car, however, it will be necessary to wait for the Bahrain tests scheduled for next month. In the photos released by the team, the finer details of the front-end area are not visible, particularly the front wing, which has changed significantly compared to 2025.
From several videos filmed outside the circuit, however, it is already possible to see how the nose is raised compared to the past, featuring clearly different profiles that underline the new design direction chosen for the 2026 technical regulations.
As the R26 completes its initial shakedown, the “Binotto era” at Audi is officially in motion. The choice to run a double push-rod suspension suggests a focus on mechanical efficiency and weight management, critical factors in the new 2026 regulations. While the full aerodynamic secrets remain under wraps until the Super Bowl reveal and the subsequent Bahrain tests, this early outing confirms that the German giant is leaving nothing to chance in its quest to challenge the established front-runners.
