Haas once again confirmed its upward trajectory during the Chinese Grand Prix, with Oliver Bearman continuing to deliver consistent and mature performances. The young British driver produced another impressive race, calmly managing several unexpected situations during the event. On the other side of the garage, however, Esteban Ocon was left with considerable regret after a promising start to the race ended in disappointment.
The American team’s progress has become increasingly evident as the season unfolds. With the VF-26 showing clear improvements in pace and consistency, Haas appears to be establishing itself as a competitive force in the midfield battle.
Race summary
Oliver Bearman’s race was far from straightforward, as he had to deal with multiple challenges from the very first lap. The British driver narrowly avoided contact with the spinning Red Bull of Isack Hadjar during the chaotic opening moments of the race. That incident could easily have ended his afternoon prematurely, but Bearman reacted quickly and kept his car out of trouble.
Thanks in part to the Safety Car period that followed, Bearman was able to regain valuable positions and gradually move forward through the field. Showing remarkable composure and race management for such a young driver, he maintained a strong pace throughout the race and ultimately crossed the finish line in fifth place.
This result allowed Oliver Bearman to finish as the best of the rest behind the dominant Mercedes and Ferrari cars, confirming both his growing confidence in Formula 1 and the competitiveness of the Haas package.
Esteban Ocon’s race, by contrast, took a very different direction. The French driver had shown promising speed in the opening stages and spent a large portion of the race fighting inside the points positions. However, a move that proved too aggressive against the Alpine of Franco Colapinto ended up compromising his afternoon.
The stewards judged the incident to be Ocon’s responsibility and handed the Haas driver a ten-second penalty. That sanction dropped him down the order and ultimately forced him to settle for fourteenth place at the finish.

“It was a fantastic race, we couldn’t have asked for more,” said Oliver Bearman after the race. “I was stuck in traffic at the beginning, but the Safety Car helped us.”
Esteban Ocon reflected on what had been a frustrating race weekend. “We had a very good pace, but things didn’t go our way today. I made a mistake with Franco Colapinto.”
Team Principal Ayao Komatsu was full of praise for the effort shown by the entire Haas team following Bearman’s strong result.
“I’m speechless about this performance. Ollie’s fifth place is fully deserved. We showed what is possible when you work hard,” the Japanese manager added. “Our objective now is to maintain this level of consistency at the next race in Japan.”
Team outlook for the upcoming races
With this result, Haas now occupies fourth place in the Formula 1 constructors’ championship standings. The points scored in Shanghai provide further confirmation that the technical development of the VF-26 is moving in the right direction.
The American team is now looking ahead to the next rounds of the Formula 1 calendar with optimism. The main goal in the upcoming races will be to maximize the potential already shown by the car while continuing to build on the detailed analysis work carried out by the engineers.
