Hadjar rejects Antonelli’s apology after Sprint clash in China
The Sprint race of the Chinese Grand Prix also produced a moment of tension between two of the youngest drivers on the Formula 1 grid. Isack Hadjar and Andrea Kimi Antonelli came into contact during the race, with the Italian driver quickly finding himself under criticism from the Frenchman for what was considered an overly aggressive move.
The incident occurred in a corner when Antonelli made contact with Hadjar’s Red Bull, compromising the race of the French driver. Following the stewards’ investigation, the Mercedes driver was handed a 10-second penalty for the collision. The contact immediately sparked a heated exchange between the two drivers, a discussion that continued even after the chequered flag.
Hadjar refuses Antonelli’s apology: the confrontation continues
At the end of the Sprint, Kimi Antonelli attempted to approach his rival in order to apologize for the incident. However, the gesture was not welcomed by Isack Hadjar, who was clearly frustrated by what had happened on track. The French driver refused the apology from the young Italian talent, making it clear that he did not appreciate the maneuver that led to the contact.
Shortly after the race, Isack Hadjar was asked during interviews about the reason behind his reaction and why he chose not to accept Antonelli’s apology. The Red Bull driver delivered a very direct response.
“I don’t understand why he needs to push so much if he already has a rocket ship.”
The remark clearly suggests that Isack Hadjar believes Antonelli’s car holds a clear performance advantage, implying that there was no real need to take excessive risks while attempting the overtake. The clash between the two drivers is now likely to remain a talking point in the coming days, especially as the battles between Formula 1’s new generation of young drivers continue to intensify throughout the championship.
