Bitter Baku for McLaren, Lando Norris jokes: “I even struggled with Tsunoda”
Lando Norris finished the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in seventh place, marking a bitter weekend for McLaren. The team lost the chance to secure the Constructors’ Championship at Baku, particularly due to Oscar Piastri’s retirement. These disappointing performances also affected the ongoing battle between McLaren’s driver duo, with Piastri scoring his first zero of the season and Norris gaining little from his seventh-place finish, leaving a 25-point gap between the two.
The difficulties behind the wheel of the RB21 were evident, as Norris struggled to overtake Yuki Tsunoda, who crossed the line just ahead of the British driver. Speaking after the race about his on-track experience, Lando Norris made a sharp remark: “The pace wasn’t there because I even struggled to keep up with Tsunoda.” The comment also highlighted Yuki Tsunoda’s challenging season, while emphasizing McLaren’s drop in performance compared to Red Bull. Max Verstappen’s double victory and the points collected by Yuki Tsunoda send a clear signal that Red Bull is recovering strongly.
Looking ahead, the Singapore Grand Prix could become a crucial stage for Max Verstappen. A win at Marina Bay would bring him much closer to the McLaren pair, who must bounce back after their bitter weekend in Baku.
