Between growing confidence and painful retirements, Fernando Alonso sees positive signs for the future as the AMR25 continues to falter at critical moments. The two-time world champion is looking ahead with renewed optimism: 2026 could be a redemption season for Aston Martin, after months plagued by technical issues and disappointing results. Alonso stated that, for the first time in years, the team can finally “trust the tools” coming from the factory, something that had not been possible in previous seasons. Strong performances in Budapest and Zandvoort suggest increased stability, but hope does not erase the wounds left by Monza.
At Monza, Fernando Alonso appeared to have everything under control: a solid start, decisive overtakes, and a virtual seventh position after the pit stops. However, on lap 25, the right front suspension of the AMR25 failed at the Ascari corner following an aggressive exit. Fernando Alonso was forced to retire while in points-scoring position.
“It was frustrating, we were running well,” Fernando Alonso admitted after the race, emphasizing how bad luck continues to intervene in weekends when Aston Martin seems capable of achieving concrete results.
Alonso estimated that he lost at least 20 points due to engine or suspension failures in races where the performance had been competitive.
Looking toward 2026: what changes
Alonso highlighted that the team now seems to have improved the correlation between factory data and what reaches the track, enabling more reliable developments for the next year. “Bringing components to the track that perform as expected is a very positive step,” he said.
Adrian Newey, who recently joined Aston Martin, had pointed out that certain tools, such as the driver-in-the-loop simulator, were previously weak, but are now being improved.
For the remaining races, Fernando Alonso aims to extract the maximum from circuits where he feels most competitive, hoping to finish the season reducing the gap to rivals in the Constructors’ Championship standings.
