Aston Martin’s 2026 hopes: Adrian Newey admits winning may not be possible. Adrian Newey has reportedly admitted Aston Martin will not be ready to fight for wins in 2026.

F1 | Aston Martin will not win in 2026: the revelation comes directly from Adrian Newey

In 2026, we might not see Aston Martin fighting for victory, despite the arrival of a legendary figure like Adrian Newey.

Aston Martin’s challenge with the new regulations

When Aston Martin announced it had secured Adrian Newey, the team was immediately considered among the favorites for the 2026 Formula 1 season. The British engineer is widely regarded as a guarantee of excellence in car design, and with the major regulation changes coming in 2026, the timing seemed perfect for the team to close the gap to the established front-runners.

However, things may not be as straightforward as they appeared. According to former F1 driver Riccardo Patrese, the “green machine” could face more difficulties than expected. “I had the chance to talk to Adrian during the Goodwood Festival of Speed. According to him, they won’t be ready to fight for wins as early as next year. From the way he told me, he seemed sincere, although with him you never really know because he’s incredible. Deep down, he hopes to have a competitive car already in 2026, but he doesn’t want to say it,” Riccardo Patrese revealed in an interview with RacingTipster.

The revelation about Max Verstappen’s future

Adrian Newey also reportedly opened up about Max Verstappen’s future during their conversation. “He told me this is one of the reasons why they won’t have Max Verstappen. They cannot guarantee him a top-level car yet and will need to wait to see how the season unfolds. If they turn out to be competitive, then they will make an attempt to sign Max. At that point, it would be interesting to see who between Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso would leave the team. Fernando, even though he is older, could still win with a fast car, while Lance is, of course, the owner’s son. The 2026 season will also serve to clarify this situation,” Riccardo Patrese added.
