From Mercedes to Cadillac: Bottas reveals an encouraging parallel

Valtteri Bottas has officially confirmed his 2026 Formula 1 plans, joining the newly announced Cadillac F1 team alongside Sergio Perez. The announcement marks a new chapter for the Finnish driver, who has spent the past few years navigating the sidelines of the sport while waiting for an opportunity like this. For Perez, it follows a year away from racing after a disappointing Red Bull campaign, offering him a chance to reset before committing to his future.

A new opportunity with Cadillac

Valtteri Bottas shared that he was immediately impressed by the ambition shown by Cadillac’s leadership during negotiations. “From the moment I began discussions with Cadillac, I felt something different: ambitious, yet also concrete,” the 1989-born Finnish driver stated. He emphasized that the project goes beyond just racing. “This isn’t just a race project, it’s a long-term vision. It’s rare to have the opportunity to be part of something being built from the ground up and to help turn it into a team that truly belongs on the Formula 1 grid.”

Encouraging parallels with Mercedes

Valtteri Bottas also drew a direct comparison between the Cadillac environment and his experience at Mercedes during his time with the Silver Arrows from 2017 to 2021. “I’ve had the honor of working with some of the best teams in the world. Here I already see the same level of professionalism and drive,” he explained, highlighting the promising structure of the American team.

He added, “Cadillac is an iconic brand with a rich tradition in American motorsport. Being part of its history as it steps onto the global F1 stage is incredibly special for me. I can’t wait to represent the American racing spirit on the world’s most important circuits. I would also like to thank Mercedes for their support and sportsmanship in facilitating such an exciting step forward in my career.”

Looking forward to 2026

For Valtteri Bottas, joining Cadillac is not only a chance to continue his career in Formula 1, but also an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a team being built from scratch. With Sergio Perez as his teammate, the pair will combine experience and talent to help Cadillac establish itself competitively, laying solid foundations for the long term. Bottas’ perspective reflects both confidence in the American manufacturer and optimism about the potential impact of the team’s structured, professional approach on the grid.
