Oliver Bearman has warned Arvid Lindblad ahead of his arrival in Formula 1 in 2026, stating that it will “definitely be a challenge”.
Oliver Bearman has predicted a “tough start” for Arvid Lindblad in Formula 1 in 2026, as he is set to face the season as the only rookie on the grid. This year there were five newcomers competing in F1 – Oliver Bearman, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Isack Hadjar, Gabriel Bortoleto and Jack Doohan – and, according to the British driver, it will be “a challenge” for the new Racing Bulls driver to be the only debutant next season.
The young driver from the Red Bull junior programme finished sixth in the Formula 2 championship and will line up alongside Liam Lawson at Racing Bulls in 2026. It was Arvid Lindblad’s impressive performances, including his appearances during Free Practice 1 sessions this year, that convinced senior management to give him an opportunity for the upcoming season.
There are certainly many advantages to entering the category next year. Being promoted to Formula 1 in the same season as a major regulation change could be beneficial, as everyone will have to adapt to a new way of racing. “The new rules level things out a bit,” Ollie Bearman said when discussing the positive aspects for Arvid Lindblad. However, having someone on the grid who understands your situation can be just as important for a young driver entering the most coveted category in motorsport for the first time.
Bearman’s words
“It will definitely be a challenge, but I think Arvid is a very talented driver,” Ollie Bearman said, referring to Lindblad’s arrival on the grid in 2026. “I raced in Formula 2 with Prema when he was in Formula 3, and he performed very well throughout the year. Now he has also had a fantastic season in Formula 2.”
Thanks also to the changes planned for next season, the Haas driver believes the rookie has all the qualities needed to handle the step up to Formula 1.
“It will be a tough start. But the new rules will be a bit of a reset for the entire grid, because we all have a lot to learn,” Ollie Bearman added. “The rookies who came in [in 2025] found themselves in regulations that were already very mature and where all the drivers had a lot of experience, while we were just at the beginning. So there are pros and cons in every period of Formula 1.”
“I’m sure he would prefer to be on the grid with other newcomers. But I’m also sure he would rather be the only newcomer than not be in Formula 1 at all. So that’s just how it is,” the British driver concluded.
