F1 2026: Aston Martin secures key signing from Red Bull ahead of new regulations. Aston Martin has signed former Red Bull engineer Nick Roberts.

Aston Martin has secured an important signing for the future of Formula 1. Nick Roberts, formerly a strategic engineer at Red Bull, will move to Silverstone to become part of the British team. Roberts brings with him extensive experience built during his years in Milton Keynes. He will officially begin his new role in the 2026 season, coinciding with the introduction of the new technical regulations that are expected to reshape the sport.

A significant loss for Red Bull

In recent months, Aston Martin has been attracting several engineers from Milton Keynes. Red Bull, as a result, loses another figure who played a role in many of its triumphs. This move underlines Aston Martin’s determination to strengthen itself both technically and strategically. Although Roberts had most recently been part of the Racing Bulls organization, he remained under contract with Red Bull and had been reassigned to the satellite team.

Following the arrival of Adrian Newey and continuous investment in the state-of-the-art Silverstone factory, Lawrence Stroll’s team is positioning itself for a strong future. The 2026 season will be a pivotal year for Formula 1, with the introduction of new power units and sweeping regulation changes that could dramatically alter the competitive order. Aston Martin’s goal is to be fully prepared, and Roberts’ recruitment is another important step toward that objective. The team hopes to boost its competitiveness and provide Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll with a car capable of fighting consistently at the front of the grid.

Inside the team, all eyes are on Adrian Newey

Stoffel Vandoorne, Aston Martin’s reserve and third driver, spoke about the arrival of former Red Bull design genius Adrian Newey, who recently joined the Silverstone squad:

“I met Newey during the Monaco Grand Prix and worked with him a few weeks ago on the seat position for the 2026 car. Having someone with such an incredible record of success in the team is hugely important. He’s a great leader, he has a very clear vision of where to invest time and resources, and he’s already transmitting that direction to the entire team. He is fully focused on the 2026 project.”
