Bearman 6th in Zandvoort: “Sometimes you need to be in the right place at the right time”
Starting from the pit lane, the British driver climbed into the points together with his teammate, securing his best ever finish in Formula 1.
Double success for Haas
The outcome of the Dutch Grand Prix went beyond Haas’ expectations, with the American team achieving a double points finish for the fourth time this season. This result, which had been missing since the Bahrain Grand Prix, came thanks to both the race strategy adopted by Haas and the retirements and penalties of several rivals, which opened the door for a climb up the order from the back of the grid.
Best Formula 1 result so far
Oliver Bearman, who had to start from the pit lane, managed to work his way up to seventh on track, which later became sixth after Andrea Kimi Antonelli was handed a time penalty for his collision with Charles Leclerc and for slightly exceeding the speed limit in the pit lane. With this finish, the young Briton claimed the best result of his Formula 1 career: “I wasn’t expecting it, and we were definitely lucky,” explained the 20-year-old. “Sometimes you need to be in the right place at the right time, and our strategy was well planned, the car was quick, and the team did a fantastic job. It was a bit unlucky that we had to start from the pit lane, but it’s great to be back in the points with Esteban. The team is working really hard, we are getting there step by step, and there are still things to improve, but we are on the right path.”
Another strong comeback
Starting 18th on the grid, Esteban Ocon gained two places at the start before pitting just ahead of the Safety Car period caused by the Antonelli–Leclerc incident, rejoining in 14th. From the restart, the Frenchman steadily climbed to 11th, which then became 10th after Antonelli received a total of 15 seconds in penalties. “It’s very positive for the team to score points with both cars,” added Ocon. “I was a bit unlucky with the second Safety Car and maybe lost three or four positions, but overall it’s a big satisfaction and well done to Ollie, it’s a fantastic result for us. Congratulations also to Isack Hadjar, a fellow Frenchman who took his first podium – it’s a day he will never forget. We helped each other during the race, we worked together as a team, I gave him DRS and we kept pushing together.”
