Max Verstappen will have one final opportunity to equal Jim Clark’s record of four Formula 1 victories at Zandvoort when the Netherlands hosts its last scheduled Dutch Grand Prix. Victory would also give the Red Bull driver his first win of the 2026 season, adding another layer of significance to an already historic farewell weekend.

The next round of the Formula 1 World Championship will be a landmark occasion for the Netherlands and Circuit Zandvoort, which has hosted all 35 editions of the Dutch Grand Prix held so far. The 2026 race, included on the complete Formula 1 calendar, will be the country’s final Grand Prix after the event was not retained from the following championship onwards.

Final Dutch GP gives Max Verstappen one last home opportunity

The loss of the Dutch Grand Prix represents a major disappointment for the Orange Army, who will fill Zandvoort’s grandstands not only to witness the final race but also to support home favourite Max Verstappen. The Red Bull driver has already marked the occasion by unveiling a special helmet for his final Zandvoort race.

Formula 1 returned to the Netherlands in 2021 following an absence that had lasted since 1985. Max Verstappen immediately established his dominance at home, winning three consecutive Dutch Grands Prix between 2021 and 2023. Despite that remarkable run, Max Verstappen has not yet claimed the record for the most Formula 1 victories at Zandvoort.

That target could finally be achieved in 2026, with Max Verstappen needing one more victory to equal Jim Clark’s record of four wins. Max Verstappen currently shares second place in the all-time ranking with fellow multiple world champions Jackie Stewart and Niki Lauda, who also won three Dutch Grands Prix.

A fourth victory on home soil would allow Max Verstappen to equal Jim Clark’s achievement while also securing his first win of the current campaign. The 2026 Formula 1 standings show Max Verstappen among the championship’s chasing group, making a home victory especially valuable as the second half of the season begins.

All four of Jim Clark’s Dutch Grand Prix victories came during the 1960s. Like Max Verstappen, the Englishman won at Zandvoort three years in succession, triumphing in 1963, 1964 and 1965 before completing his collection with a fourth victory in 1967.

The 2026 Dutch Grand Prix weekend therefore represents Max Verstappen’s final opportunity to match the historic record and bring Zandvoort’s latest chapter in Formula 1 to a fitting conclusion.
