The 2024 Formula 1 season brought many thrills, starting with the scandals hitting Red Bull, which culminated in the departure of chief technical officer Adrian Newey. It continued with the world championship battle between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, and ended with the Ferrari-McLaren rivalry. All of this is gold for the creators of the popular Netflix series *Drive to Survive*, which will feature strong remarks from Christian Horner directed at his direct competitor Zak Brown of McLaren.
Let’s be honest: the Formula 1 series has attracted a huge audience to the sport. Men, women, and especially young people, who were previously completely unfamiliar with the world of motorsport, have started to engage with and experience it as passionate fans. Despite this, many, as is to be expected, criticize the Netflix product. The producers often create controversies and dramatic situations that are completely fabricated for the sake of entertainment.
We find ourselves once again questioning whether Formula 1 really needed all of this to return to dominating the rankings of the most-watched sports worldwide. A few days ago, the release of the new season, the seventh, was announced. It will be available on the streaming platform starting Friday, March 7, and will consist of 10 episodes, covering the entire 2024 racing season.
The season will revisit the events from the start to the end of the last racing year, from Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari, Daniel Ricciardo and Sergio Perez’s departures, Carlos Sainz’s search for a seat, to the Norris-Verstappen and Ferrari-McLaren title fights. It is precisely during the latter battle that a rather absurd issue has recently come to light. According to *The Express*, it seems that Netflix cameras recorded Christian Horner harshly insulting Zak Brown.
The first episodes of the series focus on the early part of the 2024 season when Horner was embroiled in the sexual scandal involving a Red Bull employee. One of his biggest critics, who even called for him to be removed from the circus, was McLaren’s Team Principal, Zak Brown. Horner reportedly responded, “In these cases, you find out who your friends are, right? Well, Zak is a d***head.” After the Bahrain Grand Prix, following Verstappen and Perez’s double victory, Horner also remarked, “It’s the best way to tell them all to f*** off.”
