Delta time not respected?
The Brazilian Grand Prix Sprint Race at the 4.309-kilometre Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace in Sao Paulo ended with a potential issue for Max Verstappen, which could cost him the third-place finish and a crucial point in the championship. The Red Bull driver is under investigation for a possible infraction committed during the Virtual Safety Car (VSC) period, which neutralized the Sprint for nearly an entire lap between laps 23 and 24.
Max Verstappen may not have adhered to the required delta time during the Virtual Safety Car phase. In the final stage of the VSC, the reigning world champion attempted to overtake Oscar Piastri at Descida do Lago while the Virtual Safety Car was still active.
Potential penalty incoming
Verstappen then eased off, realizing the race hadn’t yet resumed, but the Virtual Safety Car ended immediately afterward. It’s possible that #1 didn’t have enough time to meet the required delta.
If the violation is confirmed by the stewards, Max Verstappen could face a five or ten-second penalty, which would drop him from third to fourth place, moving Charles Leclerc up and resulting in a three-point rather than two-point loss to Lando Norris. Small details, but potentially decisive in this tight championship race.
