David Coulthard dismisses rumors of tension between Max Verstappen and Red Bull. David Coulthard rejects speculation over Max Verstappen's Red Bull future.

David Coulthard, F1

David Coulthard has played down speculation surrounding an alleged rift between Max Verstappen and Red Bull, arguing that the Dutch driver’s outspoken personality is often misunderstood.

Speaking to RacingNews365.com, the former Formula 1 driver explained that Verstappen has always been brutally honest when expressing his emotions, both during races and in media interviews.

“Max never holds back when he gives interviews. He says things like, ‘This is unacceptable,’ and comments of that nature. Many people immediately think, ‘Oh my God, there’s going to be a huge split at Red Bull,'” Coulthard observed.

Verstappen’s frustration does not signal a crisis

Max Verstappen’s frustration reached its peak following the rear wing failure during the British Grand Prix, a problem that mirrored the issue Red Bull had already experienced in Austria.

However, Coulthard believes the four-time world champion’s honesty should not be interpreted as evidence of internal conflict.

“If you look back, ever since his Toro Rosso days, Max has always said exactly what he feels at that moment—his truth—and his relationship with the team has always continued,” he explained.

During the British Grand Prix, Verstappen also lost control of his car at Stowe Corner, ending any realistic hopes of fighting back for a podium finish. Over team radio, he vented his frustration with a blunt “F**k this car!”, before later describing the situation as “super dangerous” when speaking to the media.

Coulthard dismisses McLaren speculation

Despite recent rumors linking Max Verstappen with a potential move to McLaren, David Coulthard believes the speculation has been exaggerated.

According to the former Red Bull driver, Verstappen’s direct communication style has been one of his defining characteristics throughout his Formula 1 career and should not be viewed as a sign that he is preparing to leave the Milton Keynes-based team.

Coulthard also highlighted the progress made by the RB22 despite its recent reliability problems, while emphasizing Verstappen’s ability to maintain strong relationships within Red Bull even during difficult moments.
