F1 | Coulthard surprises everyone: “Verstappen would be perfect for Ferrari”
The future of Max Verstappen continues to fuel speculation throughout the Formula 1 paddock. Despite still being under contract with Red Bull Racing, the Dutch driver’s name is constantly being linked with several rival top teams.
The most surprising comments, however, came from former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard, who believes the ideal destination for Max Verstappen would not actually be Mercedes. According to the former Scottish driver, the reigning world champion possesses characteristics that would make him even more suited to the Ferrari environment.
“In my opinion, Max would integrate better into the Ferrari context than the Mercedes one,” Coulthard reportedly explained, emphasizing how the Dutch driver could express himself with greater freedom inside the Maranello-based Scuderia.
The former McLaren driver also added that Verstappen would primarily need an environment that allows him to focus exclusively on driving and delivering results: “Arrive at the track, be fast, win and then go home — I believe that style would fit very well with Ferrari”.
Over recent months, Max Verstappen’s name has also been linked with Mercedes, Aston Martin and even McLaren. However, McLaren CEO Zak Brown recently reaffirmed his complete confidence in the current driver pairing of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
For the moment, Max Verstappen remains fully focused on the current Formula 1 season with Red Bull Racing, even if the debate surrounding his long-term future appears destined to continue for quite some time.
The speculation surrounding Max Verstappen’s next move highlights a fascinating debate regarding team culture and driver personality in modern Formula 1. While Mercedes often emphasizes a highly corporate and structured environment, David Coulthard’s assessment suggests that Ferrari’s traditional focus on pure racing passion might be the better outlet for Verstappen’s no-nonsense approach.
