Damon Hill reveals: ‘I’m not the same man I was’ after leaving Sky Sports F1 job. It will soon be the end of an era for Damon Hill and Sky Sports' F1 coverage.

Damon Hill

Damon Hill has openly shared his thoughts after announcing that he will step down from his position with Sky Sports F1 at the end of the current season. The legendary British driver, who secured the Formula 1 World Championship with Williams in 1996, has yet to reveal the exact reasons behind his decision, following discussions with the broadcaster earlier this year.

Damon Hill, who had made occasional appearances as a pundit for ITV before, joined Sky Sports in 2011. Over the years, he not only provided insightful analysis but also conducted numerous interviews with key figures in F1, becoming a beloved personality among viewers.

In response to a heartfelt tribute from Billy McGinty, Sky Sports’ Director of Formula One praised his invaluable contributions: “We thank Damon Hill for 13 incredible years with the Sky Sports F1 team. He has been an integral part of our coverage, bringing unparalleled insight, expertise, and passion to our broadcasts. His unique perspective, shaped by his own legendary racing career, has entertained and excited fans worldwide.”

The details of that next chapter are yet to unfold, but Hill’s reaction was both candid and laced with humor. Damon Hill has reflected on his time with the network and the impact of his departure.

“Another great photo! Thanks Sky Sports F1,” he wrote on X, referring to the image of him posted alongside the tribute by the Sky account. “And adieu. It’s been a long and bumpy ride. I’m not the same man that got on the bus all them years ago. I will not forget what you have done for me. Merci. (Don’t know why I’m suddenly talking French).”

In a subsequent post, the 64-year-old, who will continue his association with Formula 1 as an ambassador, praised the impact and contributions of his colleagues: “I will miss the most impressive bunch of professionals it has ever been my pleasure to have worked with,” he wrote. “Looking forward to new challenges.”

Damon Hill’s final season behind the microphone is likely to be remembered for his fiery exchanges with reigning world champion Max Verstappen. Following the Dutch driver’s two time penalties at the Mexico Grand Prix, Hill didn’t hold back, comparing Max Verstappen’s driving style to that of the cartoon villain Dick Dastardly, and criticizing what he deemed as ‘silly’ maneuvers.

In response, Max Verstappen dismissed Damon Hill’s comments, telling reporters he couldn’t care less about the pundit’s opinions, and accusing him of showing a clear British bias. Hill, undeterred, stood by his initial criticism but later softened his tone, offering praise for the 27-year-old after his exceptional victory in Brazil earlier this month.
