In theory, the grid for next season is set. However, a lingering question remains over who will partner Max Verstappen in 2025, as Franco Colapinto and Sergio Perez continue to battle for Red Bull’s second seat.
Until a few weeks ago, the Argentine driver’s move to Christian Horner‘s team seemed certain, but recent reports suggest otherwise. According to *Marca*, Checo Perez has secured agreements with several new sponsors willing to invest tens of millions of dollars if the Mexican stays at Red Bull.
The former Racing Point driver also has a contract for next year, though in Formula 1, contracts often include performance clauses allowing teams to terminate agreements early.
Another driver steps forward for next year
Meanwhile, another young driver has made his case. Isack Hadjar, a rising talent in Red Bull’s development program, recently spoke about his future. “The chances of going to Formula 1 are there. Obviously, it doesn’t depend on me,” the French driver stated. “There’s a lot happening with Red Bull and Racing Bulls; anything can happen.”
“What is certain is that I’m next in line, that’s clear. I don’t know what they’ll decide to do, but in any case, I’m here, and I’m trying to be ready for next year,” Isack Hadjar added.
As of now, it seems unlikely that the French driver will make it to Formula 1 next year. On one hand, changes at Racing Bulls appear improbable. On the other, a move to Red Bull might be premature given that Horner has the option of signing Franco Colapinto.
Isack Hadjar also commented on the possibility of the Argentine taking “his” spot. “They’re definitely looking for a fast driver, and Franco Colapinto has proven he’s one. But yes, it would bother me if they chose him, given that I’ve been in the Red Bull program for years, I’m second in F2, and I’m a reserve driver.” – he concluded.
