For months now, essentially since it became clear that McLaren would be a major contender for the 2025 world titles, fans have anticipated the moment when the internal duel between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris would heat up. And they were not disappointed. After the contact in the very early stages of the Singapore race — which had no consequences for the two drivers — the Austin Sprint saw a major incident that handed a double zero to both drivers.
While the blame for the United States Grand Prix Sprint incident was placed on Nico Hulkenberg, thereby exonerating Oscar Piastri’s maneuver, it was reported that Lando Norris was considered at fault for the Singapore incident. Consequently, he was expected to face “repercussions until the end of the season,” though the specifics were not publicly detailed.
What will these repercussions be?
McLaren has remained tight-lipped, but some sources suggest that the sanction against Norris involves the order of pit exit during qualifying stints. Both The Race and Canal+ agreed with this reconstruction. According to Canal+, for the rest of the season, Oscar Piastri will have the right to choose the pit exit order in every single qualifying session, effectively giving him priority over Lando Norris.
Whether this is simply paddock whispers or an actual team directive remains a topic of speculation, but it clearly highlights the growing tension within McLaren as both drivers battle for the 2025 championship.
