Christian Horner and Alpine: Is Flavio Briatore’s era in Formula 1 over?
In a recent interview with Bild, former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher suggested that the future of Flavio Briatore, the current Team Principal of Alpine, could be in question following the potential availability of Christian Horner after his departure from Red Bull Racing.
Ralf Schumacher’s perspective
“I think the era of figures like Flavio is over. Teams now need technically competent leaders at the top, like Horner,” Ralf Schumacher stated. He added, “Flavio could still contribute as an organizer or mediator, serving as the team’s public face to the outside world.”
Speculations on Christian Horner’s future
Rumors about Christian Horner’s next move have intensified since Red Bull parted ways with him. Horner served as Team Principal for 20 years, during which Red Bull secured eight Drivers’ Championships and six Constructors’ Championships, solidifying his reputation as one of the most successful leaders in modern Formula 1.
Flavio Briatore’s return to Formula 1
Flavio Briatore, meanwhile, returned to Formula 1 in 2024 as an executive advisor to the French team Alpine. He assumed the role of Team Principal in May of this year after the sudden resignation of Oliver Oakes. Briatore’s extensive experience as a manager and promoter in F1 has made him a recognizable figure, though his technical leadership credentials have sometimes been questioned compared to leaders like Horner.
Could Alpine welcome Horner?
If Christian Horner decides to continue his Formula 1 career, Alpine could potentially open the door for him. A technically-focused leader like Horner might bring a different strategic approach, complementing or even replacing Flavio Briatore’s current role as Team Principal. The coming months could prove pivotal for Alpine’s leadership structure and long-term performance.
