Carlos Sainz opened up in a long and personal interview, revealing his thoughts, emotions, and ambitions for the future — both within Formula 1 and beyond. The Spanish driver, now racing for Williams, took a moment to celebrate MotoGP superstar Marc Márquez, drawing a comparison between the motorcycle champion and Ayrton Senna for their shared charisma and natural talent. At the same time, he expressed deep gratitude toward the Williams team, which believed in him at one of the most delicate moments of his Formula 1 career.
Marc Márquez and the connection Sainz finds with a Formula 1 legend
“For me, Marc Márquez is the Ayrton Senna of MotoGP. The day he retires, everyone will remember Marc as the rider most similar to Senna in terms of charisma and spirit,” Carlos Sainz explained during the interview. “I really want to congratulate him — his comeback was impressive.”
His admiration for Márquez reflects Sainz’s appreciation for athletes who combine raw speed with personality, two traits that have always defined the best competitors in both Formula 1 and MotoGP. Much like Senna, Márquez has become a global symbol of determination and flair, something Sainz said continues to inspire him as a racing driver.
Sainz’s renewed motivation with Williams and hopes for 2026
The Spanish driver also spoke about his growing connection with Williams and his high expectations for the future: “The project motivates me a lot. Nothing would make me happier than to win with them. Williams believed in me when I was going through the most difficult period of my career,” Carlos Sainz stated. “If one day I manage to win a race with Williams, there will be no better feeling inside me.”
He added that he has already tested the car for next season and is excited by the changes. “I’ve tried next year’s car, and it’s a radical change. The team has gone from ninth to fifth — that’s a huge step forward. Starting to win races next year might be a bit early, but I really hope to take another step and help Williams consolidate itself as a team fighting alongside Ferrari, Mercedes, and Red Bull.”
These comments highlight not only Carlos Sainz’s confidence in the team’s direction but also his long-term belief in the project’s potential under the new Formula 1 regulations set for 2026, when power units and chassis concepts will be significantly overhauled.
Starting from scratch — something Sainz knows how to do
Throughout his career, Carlos Sainz has repeatedly shown an impressive ability to adapt and rebuild from zero when joining a new team. He has done so after leaving Toro Rosso, then McLaren, and most recently Ferrari — each time proving his determination to find fresh motivation and continue improving as a driver.
That resilience and drive have become trademarks of Carlos Sainz’s career. His willingness to embrace new challenges and maintain optimism even in difficult circumstances continues to earn him respect throughout the Formula 1 paddock. As the 2026 season approaches, his partnership with Williams could represent one of the most fascinating stories of the next generation of Formula 1 competition.
