Carlos Sainz left the São Paulo Grand Prix with disappointment and frustration, aware that it had been a tough weekend both for him and for Williams. The Spanish driver’s race was heavily compromised by an early collision with Lewis Hamilton and a string of setbacks that ultimately left him finishing in thirteenth place, outside the points.
The contact that ruined his race
Speaking to DAZN after the race, the Madrid-born driver explained the difficulties he faced in Brazil: “It just wasn’t our weekend — neither for Williams nor for me. When a piece of the front wing broke off after contact with Hamilton, the car lost a lot of front downforce. It became really difficult to handle. On top of that, we had a slow pit stop, and when you start losing seconds like that during the race, it becomes impossible to recover. We ended up two or three seconds away from the points, but by then the race was already compromised.”
His take on the battle with Hamilton and hopes for Las Vegas
Recalling the incident with the seven-time world champion, Carlos Sainz described his version of events: “I was on the inside, and he tried to pass me on the outside of Turn 1. He closed in, squeezed me, touched my front wing — I imagine he didn’t have many options. But we need to understand why we struggle so much at circuits like this. It should be the exact opposite in Las Vegas. I think we’ll be strong there, and I hope to have a good weekend.”
The thirteenth-place finish at Interlagos marked a setback for Carlos Sainz and Williams, but the Spaniard remains confident and determined. As the championship moves to Las Vegas, he aims to channel the frustration from Brazil into motivation — hoping to return to form and fight again for points under the lights of Nevada.
