The ongoing Liam Lawson – Yuki Tsunoda situation remains a hot topic in the Suzuka paddock as the teams prepare for the upcoming race. The latest internal reshuffle within the Red Bull family, involving Liam Lawson’s demotion and Yuki Tsunoda’s promotion, has sparked discussions and reactions from various figures in the F1 world.
Carlos Sainz, who has experience within the Red Bull camp, appears to have taken the opportunity to subtly criticize the team’s approach. Having been part of the Red Bull Academy and making his F1 debut with Toro Rosso alongside Max Verstappen in 2015, Carlos Sainz knows the inner workings of the team well. Despite being considered a potential candidate for the Red Bull seat to replace Sergio Perez, Carlos Sainz was ultimately overlooked during the most recent driver market.
In an interview with the official F1 channel, Carlos Sainz shared his thoughts on the “Lawson case” without holding back on his criticism of his former team. He remarked, “I think there’s nothing new here – it’s just Red Bull. This is how things are managed there, and this is how it’s been for the last 10 years in Formula 1, or at least since I’ve been here. One day you have an opportunity, the next day, if you don’t do exactly what’s expected, you’re demoted.”
Addressing the challenges of being a teammate to Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz refrained from giving a direct response: “Everyone says that being alongside Max in a car he knows so well is the toughest job in F1. If that’s true, I think it’s a good thing for me [not going to Red Bull], but at the same time, I don’t really care because I’m in the place I want to be right now, and it’s a good place for my future as well. I look forward to seeing where we can go from here.” – the former Ferrari driver concluded.
