Fernando Alonso, minor ailments before the weekend
Fernando Alonso will not participate in Thursday’s activities in Mexico City. Today, the Spaniard was supposed to attend the Mexican Grand Prix press conference alongside Charles Leclerc and Guanyu Zhou; instead, he will rest as he does not feel 100%. This was communicated by Aston Martin just a few minutes ago.
“Fernando Alonso is not feeling well and therefore will not participate in the media day for the Mexico City GP. Fernando is focused on recovering 100% fitness for Friday and his return to the AMR24 scheduled for FP2.”
The two-time world champion, possibly affected by a flu-like illness, will have over 24 hours to recover: his place in FP1 had already been taken by Felipe Drugovich, who Aston Martin will send out to comply with the requirement to field rookies in two FP1 sessions. The Mexico City Grand Prix marks the 400th race for the veteran Spaniard, who wanted to celebrate this milestone with a special helmet that reflects his remarkable career.
