Aston Martin seemed destined to become another top team after a strong start to the 2023 season. However, things turned out differently: the team finished fifth in the Constructors’ Championship in 2024 for the second consecutive year, with a significantly lower score compared to 2023. Other teams made substantial progress, and according to Team Principal Mike Krack, this situation is concerning.
While other teams made significant strides after 2023 and especially during the 2024 season, Aston Martin struggled to keep up. Often, securing points was already a challenge, with teams like Haas and Alpine surpassing the British team based in Silverstone. Just a year earlier, the situation seemed different, with Fernando Alonso securing six podiums in the first half of the season.
As a result, Mike Krack stated to Motorsport.com: “We achieved results below expectations, so we can’t be satisfied with how our season went. We stayed in fifth place, but if the championship had started in the summer, we wouldn’t have finished in fifth place. So, I think overall, we need to reflect on the season and view it much more critically.”
The Aston Martin team principal emphasized that not all areas had seen improvements, which led to a decline in other aspects. Ultimately, Mike Krack believes the team must carefully assess the situation and draw the right conclusions.
There are high expectations for Aston Martin in the near future: Andy Cowell has joined the team as CEO, replacing former McLaren figure Martin Whitmarsh, and Adrian Newey has joined the team members as Technical Director. The British designer is said to be focused on 2026, but Aston Martin’s leadership has often stated that they do not view 2025 as a year to step back; rather, they intend to push the car’s development for the upcoming season.
Will 2025 finally be a turning point for the British team? Probably yes, but it will be necessary for both the team and the drivers to make significant progress and find the right direction for the car’s development.
