A stellar team
From the major works for the new headquarters in Silverstone to hiring top-tier profiles from the world of F1: Aston Martin is serious about throwing down the gauntlet to top teams like Mercedes, Ferrari, or Red Bull in the fight for the world title, and Lawrence Stroll has certainly spared no expense. Consider Adrian Newey, the legendary designer ready to become an Aston Martin partner starting next March, or Enrico Cardile, who will leave Ferrari to become the new Chief Technical Officer. Prestigious names added to those already in the team, such as Technical Director Dan Fallows, not to mention Performance Director Tom McCullough.
The PSG case
All these big names grouped together in one team to aim for the top. A strategy that reminds world champion Nico Rosberg a lot of that adopted by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the world of football: luxury signings like Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar to try to win the Champions League, which they lost in the final to Bayern Munich in 2020 (just before Messi’s arrival), with the trio eventually continuing their careers in other teams as the seasons passed, all while PSG has not reached another Champions final.
Collaboration is necessary
“Look at PSG,” Rosberg explained to Sky Sports F1. “They had Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe all at the same time. Three of the best footballers of all time, and all the others were very good too, but they never won the Champions League. It’s fantastic to have the best talents and the best managers. However, they need to get along because you’re only good when everyone collaborates together. Adrian Newey alone won’t be able to make that car a winner. He needs the rest of the team. Of course, he can give them good direction; he can be a guide, but he needs the rest of the team to shine with him. It will be a challenge for them to integrate and make the team a family that all moves in the same direction.” – the 2016 F1 world champion concluded.
