Aston Martin reserve driver Felipe Drugovich has revealed some insight into the intensity of Adrian Newey’s work at Aston Martin, highlighting just how focused the legendary designer is on the future.
Newey is focused on his next masterpiece
Last year, Aston Martin team principal Lawrence Stroll introduced Adrian Newey to the press with understandable excitement. After all, Adrian Newey is a brilliant mind, responsible for designing some of the fastest cars in Formula 1 history. However, the British engineer does not enjoy the spotlight and, in recent months, has secluded himself in his office to work on projects that could take Aston Martin to the top.
At Silverstone, Adrian Newey was seen fully focused on 2026, the year of a major regulatory overhaul in Formula 1. So focused, in fact, that he reportedly does not want to talk to anyone about the work he began on March 3, as Aston Martin’s reserve driver Felipe Drugovich revealed.
Felipe Drugovich’s words
“The only contact I’ve had with him was at Silverstone when he came onto the track,” Felipe Drugovich told the Daily Express. “I introduced myself and said, ‘Nice to meet you.’ That was the extent of our interaction and everything I said to him.”
“I think it’s a positive thing; he’s really focused on what he’s doing,” he added. “He doesn’t talk to anyone on the team. No one knows what he’s doing, in the sense that he doesn’t share it with anyone, which is a good sign because it shows he’s extremely focused on his work. For this reason, I expect Aston Martin to perform very well in 2026.”
