Sebastian Vettel, No Le Mans This Year Either
Sebastian Vettel will not be behind the wheel of one of Porsche’s 963 Hypercars at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year. The German driver came close to making his debut in the endurance racing classic last season but, after participating in a private test at the Aragon circuit alongside Porsche’s official drivers, the partnership failed to materialize. The team ultimately opted for a younger driver with more endurance racing experience, choosing Brazilian Felipe Nasr instead.
Pascal Wehrlein Preferred Over Sebastian Vettel
If not an outright rejection, it was close. For 2025, Sebastian Vettel was never seriously considered as a candidate to complete the crew of Porsche Penske Motorsport’s third official car—an additional entry usually fielded for Le Mans. Since retiring from F1 at the end of the 2022 season, the four-time world champion remains on the sidelines. Instead, Pascal Wehrlein will join Nasr and Nick Tandy in the No. 4 Porsche. Pascal Wehrlein is already under contract with Stuttgart’s manufacturer, competing in Formula E, where he won the 2024 world title.

For Pascal Wehrlein, 30, this will be his Le Mans debut. His selection was strongly supported by Porsche management after his solid performance at this year’s 24 Hours of Daytona, where he finished sixth overall with JDC Miller’s 963. Porsche’s other two crews will consist of Michael Christensen, Julien Andlauer, and Mathieu Jaminet in the No. 5 car, while Matt Campbell, Laurens Vanthoor, and Kevin Estre will drive the No. 6, which won the 2024 Hypercar Drivers’ Championship (with André Lotterer in place of Campbell).
Pascal Wehrlein’s Reaction
“Racing at Le Mans is a dream come true,” said Pascal Wehrlein. “I’m excited to take on this great challenge because, unlike in Formula E, I have to share the seat, setup, and strategies with other drivers, which is usually tailored just for me. Of course, I want to add major titles in other series to my Formula E world championship, but my main goal is to do a good job for the team and learn as much as possible.”
