“It lasted a long time, dear friend DRS, from 2011 to 2025.” Mercedes shared a video showing their mechanics giving an emotional farewell to the DRS, opening and closing it repeatedly.

From 2026, regulations will eliminate this system designed to reduce drag and facilitate overtaking.

The Abu Dhabi weekend could mark the final time we see this device in action, which has been a defining feature of 15 years of racing. Starting in 2026, various aerodynamic appendage ‘modes’ will come into play instead.
