Jack Doohan’s 2025 Formula 1 season has been in doubt even before it began, as it seems Alpine is already prepared to replace him with another driver. The team principal has tried to reassure the Australian, but his words do not confirm that Jack Doohan will be able to drive for the entire season.
Oliver Oakes is confident and believes that what Jack Doohan needs is simply time to adapt. The Australian made his debut in Abu Dhabi, where his performances did not offer much hope compared to other young drivers who debuted throughout the year.
One driver who did impress, despite a disappointing end, was Franco Colapinto. The Argentine does not have a full-time seat for next year, but Alpine has signed him as a reserve driver. Alongside him will be Paul Aron and Ryo Hirakawa.
“We are quite lucky to have three very strong reserves, and this puts us in a good position.” With this statement, Oliver Oakes emphasized that they can replace Jack Doohan whenever they want, and it will not be an issue because they are confident in their reserve drivers’ abilities.
How will Alpine decide whether to keep Jack Doohan in the seat or replace him with one of the three reserves? Oliver Oakes has a clear idea and explained that this year, it will be easier to make such assessments due to the number of rookies participating in the championship. However, he acknowledged the undeniable differences between the cars, which will inevitably give some young drivers an advantage over others.
