Williams, another issue
It’s not an easy period for Williams. After the coup in the São Paulo Grand Prix at the Interlagos circuit, Alpine surged ahead and comfortably overtook them in the constructors’ standings, almost certainly condemning the Grove team to ninth place (eighth is 27 points away). As if that weren’t enough, alongside the extra work to repair damage from Alex Albon’s and Franco Colapinto’s crashes, a technical problem struck the Anglo-Thai driver’s car during FP2 in Las Vegas.
It’s a fixable issue with the fuel system, but on a street circuit like the one in Nevada, it’s crucial to do as many laps as possible to gain familiarity. Unfortunately, Alex Albon managed just four laps before stopping.
Alex Albon’s comments
“We’re definitely missing mileage, and on this track, it’s essential to get laps in because it’s very tricky, and you need to feel confident in everything, especially the braking,” commented the former Red Bull driver, who finished 13th in FP1. “We’ll be able to solve the problem, but we certainly have a lot of work to do tomorrow in FP3. We need to analyze our performance and see where we can improve, but it will be about getting the tires into the right window, and we’re not there yet.”
Franco Colapinto’s comments
“It was a great experience driving under the lights of Las Vegas for the first time,” added Franco Colapinto, who finished 17th and 18th in the first and second practice sessions, respectively. “In FP1, we were fairly strong, but the track was very dirty at the start; it felt like a rally stage. Grip is low, and so are temperatures, making it hard to get the tires into the right window. We’ll work hard to figure out the best direction for Saturday, and I’m confident we’ll be stronger.”
