With just a few days to go before the first race of the 2025 F1 season, Alex Albon is raising expectations at Williams. The Bahrain tests suggested that the team has made a significant leap forward. In both race simulations and especially in fast laps, the car appeared much more competitive. Andrea Stella and other insiders have even predicted that Williams could be close to the top four teams.
However, Carlos Sainz has taken a more cautious approach, urging a long-term perspective. The team’s focus remains on maintaining a positive trajectory. Alex Albon, who knows the team well, acknowledged that important progress has been made, particularly in areas where the previous car had weaknesses. During testing, a flaw in the FW-46 was identified and largely resolved with the new car.
Alex Albon’s Revelation
Alex Albon spoke about the work Williams has done to start the F1 season in the best possible way. The goal is to improve on last season’s results without compromising development time for the 2026 car. Together with Carlos Sainz, the aim is to bring the team back to more competitive positions. The FW-47’s design specifically targeted a weakness from the previous championship.
“We have already done two shakedowns so far—one at Silverstone and one in Bahrain before testing. Mainly, the car feels better in windy conditions, I’d say. That’s my initial impression. There’s a bit of a difference in balance through corners, but compared to last season, we really struggled with wind management.” – he pointed out ahead of the Australian Grand Prix.
“It was an area we focused on a lot this year. We’ll see. So far, of course, Sakhir has been a good place to test these things, and the car has performed quite well. So I can say there are some positive signs.” – the Williams driver concluded.
