Adrian Newey’s sleepless mission: building the perfect Aston Martin for 2026. Adrian Newey is fully immersed in the Aston Martin project.

Adrian Newey, 2024 F1

Total dedication to the project

Adrian Newey, widely regarded as the greatest designer in modern Formula 1, is currently going through an intense and highly focused period at Aston Martin’s headquarters. Since March, the 66-year-old British engineer has moved his legendary drawing desk to Silverstone, where he now spends most of his days — and often his nights — working on the 2026 car. According to team principal Andy Cowell, Newey works “as if in a trance,” fully absorbed in analyzing the new technical regulations and developing a car that could completely reshape the Formula 1 hierarchy.

Cowell acknowledged that the 2025 season might be challenging for the team, but emphasized that the long-term vision is clear: to build a solid foundation for the future and create a car capable of bringing Aston Martin to the very top of the championship.

An engineer like no other

Those who know him describe an almost superhuman level of concentration. Cowell explained that entering Newey’s office feels like stepping into a secret laboratory, where every tiny detail is examined with obsessive precision. “Sometimes it really feels like you’re disturbing him,” Cowell admitted with a smile, impressed by Newey’s ability to maintain a complete vision of the car while working meticulously on every single component.

Newey’s focus on fundamental engineering principles — and his rare talent for turning theory into innovation — make him, in Cowell’s words, “the best in the business.” He is a perfectionist who lives his work as a form of art, constantly balancing intuition and scientific rigor to push the limits of what is technically possible in Formula 1.

The partnership with Enrico Cardile and Aston Martin’s vision

Alongside Newey in the team’s new technical structure is Enrico Cardile, formerly of Ferrari, who now oversees Aston Martin’s entire engineering division. Cowell assures that the two have found immediate harmony: their offices are next to each other, they often share lunch breaks, and they are united by the same determination to succeed.

While Enrico Cardile focuses on overall strategy and coordination, Adrian Newey dedicates himself to the car’s core architecture, aerodynamics, and mechanical details. Their complementary approach represents, for Aston Martin, the perfect balance between structure and creativity.

Looking ahead to 2026, the Silverstone-based team is fully committed to transforming its current development phase into a winning era — one built under the guidance of Adrian Newey’s visionary genius.
