The first Aston Martin F1 car developed under Adrian Newey will debut in 2026, but the British engineer has already left his new colleagues speechless.
Aston Martin is increasingly becoming Adrian Newey’s team, as the debut of his first F1 car built at Silverstone approaches. The British engineer leads a team of top-tier technicians with the goal of bringing Lawrence Stroll’s outfit to victory. While the official announcement of next season’s lineup is still pending – with some still convinced Max Verstappen might join – interesting stories have already begun to emerge.
Just over a year after leaving Red Bull, the most successful engineer in Formula 1 history seems to have fully settled into his new home. Adrian Newey, announced by Lawrence Stroll on September 10, could be Aston Martin’s winning asset. Already spotted again in the paddock, he’s currently acting as a “consultant” for the AMR25, but his focus is entirely on 2026.
His role is central at the team’s brand-new campus. With state-of-the-art tools and infrastructure, the backing of Honda’s experience, and at least one world-class driver in the car – whether it’s Fernando Alonso or Max Verstappen – the ingredients for victory are all there. Meanwhile, stories coming from inside the factory perfectly illustrate Adrian Newey’s character.
“Newey has already left all his colleagues speechless”
Nico Rosberg, now one of the best-informed voices in the paddock, offered a glimpse into Adrian Newey’s work: “Adrian is the greatest automotive engineer of all time, but now he’s reached an even higher level,” he told Sky Sports. “I’ve heard stories of him at the drawing board, with all the engineers mesmerized by his designs – it’s truly incredible.”
“His colleagues have their computers with every possible piece of data, while he’s there, focused, in front of them all, sketching.” It’s no secret that the Briton prefers an “old-school” approach to his work. Some time ago, when discussing his most successful cars, he had remarked that “you shouldn’t blindly trust the instruments.”
