Aston Martin eyes 2026
The 2026 Formula 1 revolution offers a chance for redemption to all those teams that dreamed of success with the current generation of cars but instead accumulated failures. Among them is undoubtedly Aston Martin, whose significant investments have not translated into results on the track.
However, team owner Lawrence Stroll has not given up. For 2026, he has prepared a compelling lineup: in addition to Fernando Alonso, who still has two years left on his contract at Silverstone, Adrian Newey will officially join in a few months, while Honda is quietly working on the next-generation power unit.
Adrian Newey’s remarks
The legendary British designer—architect of Red Bull’s most recent winning era—believes that Alonso has achieved far less than his abilities warrant: “The fact that he has won only two titles does not reflect his abilities at all,” Adrian Newey recently said in an interview for German magazine *Auto Motor und Sport*. “I am absolutely thrilled to work with Fernando. He has been a thorn in my side over the years, and I have enormous respect for him.”
While focusing on the new generation of cars, Aston Martin must not lose sight of 2025. Team principal Andy Cowell wants the team to grow as McLaren has over the past two seasons, and Adrian Newey himself would be willing to lend a hand with the current project if Stroll requests it.
