Desperately seeking Kimi
As the 2025 F1 season approaches its final stages, the search intensifies for the latent talent of Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Have Mercedes leaders, perhaps led by Toto Wolff, set expectations too high?
With only a few races remaining, final judgments on the season are imminent. The harshest scrutiny will undoubtedly fall on the young Italian driver, and at this point, offering him further excuses seems pointless. Nobody expected performances on the level of Michael Schumacher in 1991 or Lewis Hamilton in 2007, when Hamilton nearly won the championship on his debut. Yet, given Antonelli’s youth, it was hoped that at least in the second half of the season, signs of his potential—assured by Mercedes management—would emerge.
Unfortunately, none of this has materialized. Antonelli remains as much of a mystery today as he was at the start of the season.
Andrea Kimi “Gohan” Antonelli
The situation evokes a Dragon Ball episode where Goku—here represented by the serious Toto Wolff—sends the timid son “Gohan-Antonelli” to face the fearsome android Cell, represented by Max Verstappen. Wolff maintains that the young driver is the strongest in the universe. While the Manga promised a happy ending, the 2025 F1 championship has proven far less forgiving for the Bolognese talent.
Perhaps Mercedes, regretting the long apprenticeship they required of George Russell at Williams, tried the opposite approach with Kimi, which, in hindsight, may have been an even bigger mistake.
Although Andrea has secured his seat for early 2026, who can guarantee it will remain safe for the entire year if initial performances continue at this level?
After a race in which the icy Oscar Piastri melted under the spotlight, the daring Lando Norris tried to avoid mistakes, the provisional George Russell seemed passive even after signing a short-term contract, and Charles Leclerc unusually assumed a supporting role, the sun in Max Verstappen’s kingdom seems unending.
There is a desperate need for someone to challenge the invincible Dutchman. Kimi, we implore you: channel your inner Gohan, unleash your aura, and show the world your true value.
